
The winners of the 2023 British Independent Film Awards were revealed at Old Billingsgate, London, on Sunday 3 December 2023. Andrew Haigh’s All of Us Strangers was crowned Best British Independent Film, capping a strong night for the intimate relationship drama.
Hosted by Kiell Smith-Bynoe and Lolly Adefope, the awards ceremony celebrated outstanding achievement across British and international independent cinema. All of Us Strangers dominated multiple categories, taking awards for Best British Independent Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Music Supervision, and Best Editing. Paul Mescal earned a joint win for Best Supporting Performance for his role in the film.
Justine Triet’s Cannes Palme d’Or winner Anatomy of a Fall was named Best International Independent Film, a notable triumph among strong international contenders. Other films recognized across categories included Rye Lane, Scrapper, Femme, How to Have Sex, and If the Streets Were on Fire.
The ceremony also highlighted emerging talent. Mia McKenna-Bruce won Best Lead Performance for her role in How to Have Sex, while casting director Isabella Odoffin received the award for Best Casting. Several debut directors, writers, producers, and performers earned recognition, reflecting the BIFAs’ commitment to nurturing the next generation of British filmmakers.
