Brazil Striker Igor Thiago Nascimento Credits God After World Cup Selection
For Brazil national team forward Igor Thiago Nascimento, being chosen for the FIFA World Cup is a reminder of God’s faithfulness.
“It will always be an honor to wear the Brazil national team shirt 🇧🇷. Moments like this feel like a dream, but they are proof that God is faithful and fulfills each of His promises,” the striker wrote on Instagram. “Grateful to live all of this, Lord. I continue trusting and keeping my eyes fixed on You,” he added.
Nascimento has emerged as a spiritual leader for his team, consistently using his platform to direct others toward Christ. With one million followers on Instagram, the forward lists “God is all I need” in his biography and regularly posts about his faith.
In another post on May 31, he wrote, “The hand of God has done it. In the presence of my people. Before my family, in front of an entire nation. There is no greater pride than representing Brazil and seeing God’s faithfulness fulfilled before my eyes. All glory to the Lord for another moment that will remain forever marked in my life.” He concluded that message by quoting Romans 11:36: “For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever. Amen.” (Romans 11:36).
Nascimento learned he had been selected for the FIFA World Cup 2026 on May 18 and celebrated the news surrounded by family and friends. In a social media video he shared, he expressed deep gratitude: “Proud to experience this, thank you Jesus. As a child this dream seemed far away — a kid from the interior of Goiás, a dreamer and a fighter. Today this dream becomes reality. My Brazilian people, what pride to represent our country in this special moment. We go for the hexa and, with God’s will, we will bring this great dream home.”
The celebration concluded with family and friends laying hands on Nascimento and praying for him as he prepared to represent his country on the world’s biggest football stage.
Whether on the pitch or online, Nascimento views his World Cup selection not only as a career milestone but as a divine calling to glorify God and fulfill a lifelong dream. His public expressions of faith and candid posts strengthen his role as both an athlete and a spiritual example to many fans.
Brazil will face Haiti this Friday at 8:30 p.m. in their second World Cup match. Fans and teammates alike will be watching as Nascimento takes the field wearing Brazil’s colors, carrying both national pride and a testimony of faith.
