Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and two-time acting nominee Sandra Hüller are among the most recognised names in the 2024 BAFTA Film Awards nominations, while notable figures such as Greta Gerwig, Lily Gladstone, Martin Scorsese and Andrew Scott are conspicuously absent from the final list.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts announced its nominations for films released in 2023 during a live press event in London on Thursday, 18 January 2024. The nominations were revealed by EE Rising Star nominees Naomi Ackie and Kingsley Ben-Adir.

This awards season’s leading contenders, Oppenheimer and Poor Things, received heavy recognition from BAFTA, together tallying 24 nominations and appearing across many major categories. Despite the strong showing for Poor Things overall, director Yorgos Lanthimos was not nominated in the Best Director category — a surprising omission given his previous BAFTA recognition in 2019 for The Favourite.

Lily Gladstone, who had been considered a strong prospect for Leading Actress after longlists were announced, did not receive a nomination. Similarly, Leonardo DiCaprio, co-star of Killers of the Flower Moon, is not listed among the Leading Actor nominees. The ceremony will be presented by David Tennant and is scheduled for Sunday, 18 February 2024.
