The winners of the 75th BAFTA Film Awards were announced on Sunday, 13 March 2022, as the British Academy of Film and Television Arts honored the finest achievements in British and international cinema from films released in 2021. The ceremony, hosted by Rebel Wilson at London’s Royal Albert Hall, recognized outstanding work across a wide range of categories, with 48 films nominated and 24 receiving BAFTA awards.
The evening opened with a tribute to the 60th anniversary of James Bond on screen: a stirring live performance of “Diamonds Are Forever” by Dame Shirley Bassey. Later in the ceremony, CODA lead Emilia Jones gave a heartfelt rendition of Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now.”
In a notable step toward greater accessibility, BAFTA included live sign language interpreters displayed on the venue’s large screens. The ceremony also marked a historic milestone when deaf actor Troy Kotsur won the BAFTA for Best Supporting Actor for his role in CODA, highlighting increased visibility for Deaf actors in mainstream cinema.
Technical excellence dominated the tally for the sci‑fi epic Dune, which emerged as the evening’s top winner with five BAFTAs, including awards in Sound and Special Visual Effects. Other multiple winners included Belfast, The Power of the Dog and West Side Story, each securing two awards.
Joanna Scanlan was a standout of the night, earning the Best Actress BAFTA for her performance in the British independent film After Love. In an emotional acceptance speech the 60‑year‑old Scanlan thanked her husband and reflected on the film’s themes with warmth and honesty.
